The WPPA’s Inquest Bill Heads to Governor Doyle

THE WPPA’S INQUEST BILL APPROVED
BY WISCONSIN STATE ASSEMBLY

The bill must be approved by Gov. Doyle to become law

On Tuesday, December 6, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed the WPPA’s inquest bill on a voice vote. Senate Bill 132 would require public employers to reimburse law enforcement officers and other public safety employees for reasonable attorneys fees when they are exonerated by inquests into their actions taken in the line of duty. Introduced by State Senator Ted Kanavas (R-Brookfield) and State Representative Brett Davis (R-Oregon), SB 132 will protect public safety employees from having to second-guess their actions out of fear that a potential inquest could lead to financial ruin.
