MADISON – The Wisconsin Professional Police Association (WPPA) announced today its endorsement of Washington County Circuit Court Judge Annette Ziegler in her bid for the Supreme Court. The WPPA made its endorsement after soliciting the input of its membership and interviewing the candidates. The upcoming February 20 primary election and April 3 general election will decide who will fill the vacancy on the Court created with the retirement of Justice Jon Wilcox.

Also Announces Funds for Court Support, Transportation,
and Child Support Collection, and Youth Aids
MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced a multi-year effort to increase county and municipal shared revenues by $15 million in his budget. Specifically, the state will increase its shared revenue commitment to counties by $2.7 million over the next two fiscal years to help equip counties with the resources they need.
“We’re making progress on everything from economic development to health care to education,” Governor Doyle said. “The opportunities to continue moving Wisconsin forward in 2007 are endless. But to seize every opportunity, state and local governments must continue working together for middle class families.”

As we ring in the New Year, I hope that this edition of the Wisconsin Police Journal finds all our members and friends in good health.
It was extremely encouraging for me to see the results of our state and local elections, and they renewed my faith in our ability to bring our members’ issues to the attention of those who aspire to hold an elected office. By actively supporting those candidates who support us and our issues, we can continue to improve our legislative effectiveness.

In recent articles, I have kept you informed regarding the effort to recall the mayor of the city of Norway. The primary purpose revolved around the mayor’s interests in eliminating the Norway Police Department.
Although an exceptional effort was put forth by the Norway Police Association and others, the recall effort failed 607 to 426.
