2012 WPPA Pistol Shoot Rules Meeting

The Marathon County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is hosting the 2012 Pistol Shoot. There will be a rules meeting on June 1, 2012 at 11:00 am. The meeting will take place at the VFW Post, 388 River Drive, Wausau. If you have any questions, please contact Bill Millhousen or Randy Albert, 715-261-1065. Anyone is free to attend the meeting.

Update on IRS Rule on Normal Retirement Age for Governmental Plans

The Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF), which administers the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), continues to track an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulation regarding the definition of “normal retirement age” (the age at which one can retire with an unreduced benefit) for governmental plans. The regulation is effective January 1, 2013. There has been widespread concern that this rule would raise the normal retirement age for police officers, firefighters, and other protective-class employees in the WRS. Currently, the normal retirement age requirements for these protective-class employees are 54 years with less than 25 years of service, or 53 with 25 years or more of service.

We Remember Michael Duerr

Flower Janesville Police Detective Michael Duerr passed away peacefully on April 1, 2012. He joined the Janesville PD in 1984. In 1992, Michael was promoted to school liaison officer and in 1995 to the rank of detective. He received the Police Officer of the Year Award in 1994 and the Exemplary Service Citation in 2006.Michael loved the game of golf and every chance he had, he was perfecting his swing. He also enjoyed hunting. Above all, Michael loved his family, wife Margaret and two children Adam and Marisa.
