In addition to hosting the reelection of President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney, the upset victory of Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin over long-time governor Tommy Thompson for U.S. Senate, and other races for the U.S. House of Representatives, the 2012 election cycle also decided the races for the state assembly and half of the state senate.
The 2012 elections for the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate changed little to the makeup of Congress. The Democrats’ majority over the Republicans in the U.S. Senate increased only slightly from 51-47 to 53-45. Likewise, the Republicans’ majority over the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives increased only slightly from 51-47 to 53-45.
