These days it isn’t hard to feel like we are under attack. We have experienced the demonization of public employees in general by those that have bought into the myth that our benefits have somehow been at the expense of private employees who experienced losses, ignoring facts such as when the private sector was doing great they willingly traded high wages for the lack of benefits while public employees often did the opposite.

Police union leader, basketball coach raising money for police museum

MADISON, Wis. — The leader of the state’s largest police union and Wisconsin’s basketball coach are teaming up to raise money for a new museum honoring police officers in Madison.

Wisconsin Public Radio reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1g8ACmI ) that Wisconsin Professional Police Association Executive Director Jim Palmer is serving as chief executive officer of the Law Enforcement Museum of Valor. Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan is serving as the museum’s honorary chairman.

“We believe that Bo Ryan has earned a reputation for hard work and dedication, and we think that those are traits he shares in common with law enforcement officers across the state,” said Palmer.

Museum would honor Wisconsin law enforcement valor

A new nonprofit organization announced this week is seeking to create a museum to honor Wisconsin law enforcement.

The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Museum of Valor was founded after board members of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association voted to establish a separate organization to raise funds for an exhibition space.

“We do appropriately memorialize officers when they die in the line of duty, and I think there is more we can do to commemorate those who return to the line of duty after doing something courageous,” Jim Palmer, WPPA president, said Wednesday.

Museum Would Be In Downtown Madison

A group representing law enforcement in Wisconsin is trying to create the first museum for police heroes in the state.

Currently, there is a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial on the Capitol Square in Madison. A planned museum would likely be located nearby, says Jim Palmer, director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association and CEO of the proposed Law Enforcement Museum of Valor. The museum is registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Bo Ryan is its honorary chairman.
