We Remember Craig Birkholz

On Sunday, March 20, Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz, 28, paid the ultimate price for his duty to his community.

After graduating from UW Oshkosh with a criminal justice degree, Craig served in the United States Army 511th Military Police Company, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum NY, and obtained the rank of sergeant. He served five years in Afghanistan and Iraq and received many awards, medals and commendations.

Craig began working for the Fond du Lac Police Department in 2008. He took great pride in serving his country and community. The loves of Officer Birkholz life were his wife and family, his duty as a police officer and the Green Bay Packers.

A memorial fund has been established, the Craig Birkholz Memorial Fund and contributions may be made at any U.S. Bank location.

Another officer involved in the incident, Ryan Williams, is in critical condition at Theda Clark Medical Center. Williams was shot twice in the chest.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Craig’s family and friends and wish Ryan a speedy recovery.
