We Remember James Kumlien

WPPA member, James M. Kumlien passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. After graduating from Milton High School, Jim attended UW Oshkosh where earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

Jim started his law enforcement career as a correctional officer for the Rock County Sheriff’s Department and in 1995 was hired by the Beloit Police Department as an officer. In addition to his patrol duties, Jim was a Hostage Negotiator, Evidence Technician and School Resource Officer.

Jim is survived by his wife Nicole and three children, James, Jacklyn and Michael. He was a member of water ski team Rock Aqua Jays where he watched his children soar to unimaginable heights in waterskiing. He coached them to compete for the US Barefoot Water Ski Team in 2009 in Oatki, New Zealand. He was a boat driver and beamed as his children never failed to take him by the hand and share their greatest achievements.

Lasting memorials may be made to the Jim Kumlien Benefit at Blackhawk Community Credit Union, 2640 Court Street, Janesville, Wisconsin, 53548. The memorial will be used for the children’s education.
