Wisconsin Remembers Wauwautosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena

Wauwautosa Police Officer Jennifer SebenaIn the early morning hours of December 24th, 2012, 30 year-old Wauwautosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena was shot and killed while on duty. Jen joined the Wauwatosa Police Department in January of 2011 after graduating from the police academy at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. Extraordinarily active in her community, Jen volunteered for the Hunger Task Force and was deeply involved with Elmbrook Church, volunteering to lead small groups of high school girls. Her loss is one that impacts a great many people, and reflections from all across the country have been posted to honor her passing on the Officer Down Memorial page.

Jen’s funeral was held at Elmbrook Church on December 29th, and was filled with hundreds of fellow officers, firefighters, family and friends. Jennifer was laid to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery. She is survived by her mother Violet Gerhat, her father Jack Wernitznig, and brother Jacob Wernitznig.

The Wauwautosa Peace Officers Association has established the “Officer Jen Sebena Memorial Fund” to assist with the funeral expenses. All donations can be dropped off at or mailed to any of the any Focus Credit Union branches at the following addresses:
