The 2020 WPPA State Pistol Shoot will be held August 16 and 17 at the Marathon County Sheriff ’s Office Range, near Wausau, Wisconsin. This event is open to all active and retired sworn law enforcement officers. We encourage new participants for fun competition and, more importantly, camaraderie. Sunday, August 16
Noon – 4:00 pm: We will practice for the 90-round Bullseye Match. All shooting will end at 4:00 pm so we can enjoy the smoker held at the range. This will include a meal and beverages.
Monday, August 17
8:00 am until firing is done (probably around 2:00 pm): We will be running simultaneously the Sniper Match, the Bullseye Match and the 2- or 3-Gun Action Match. At the end of shooting and score tabulation, we’ll conduct the awards banquet and meal at the range.
You’ll need 40 rounds of ammunition. The course is not set yet but expect engagements on steel targets from 80 – 600 yards, light physical exertion, a cold bore shot on cranial vault targets, movers, limited exposure targets and short-range engagements. It will be timed and scored. All duty-related gear will be allowed, i.e., range finders, bipods, tripods, extra magazines, slings, rear shooting bags and/or optics of any magnification.
2- or 3-Gun Match
Kenosha is designing and administering this match. This will be primarily on steel targets. You’ll need 50 rounds of handgun ammunition and 20 rounds of patrol rifle ammunition. It will require short bursts of speed combined with reloading and shooting on the move.
This 90-round match will consist of an NRA Precision Pistol (Bullseye) course of fire at 25 yards. It is shot one-handed. Courses of fire within the match consist of Slow Fire, Timed Fire and Rapid Fire. Firearms must be chambered in .38 Special, 9mm to .45 ACP and have fixed or adjustable iron sights. Shooters compete in classes of like skilled shooters determined by previous year’s scores. New shooters are classified as “Freshman” and will compete against first-year shooters.
There are room blocks under the WPPA State Shoot at the following. $100 per night. A block of 10 rooms have been held in reserve until July 19.
