The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an exceptional Staff Attorney focused on Workers Compensation and the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds Chapter 40 Duty Disability to join our team and play a crucial role in defending the rights of law enforcement officers. As an attorney with the WPPA, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact in shaping the future of law enforcement in Wisconsin. Your primary responsibilities will include:
· Serve as primary workers compensation and duty disability attorney for WPPA members and the members of the WPPA Extended Employee Legal Plan.
· Advise and counsel members on workers compensation and duty disability issues.
· Manage all aspects of workers’ compensation and duty disability cases.
· Develop strategies that lead to efficient and successful resolution of cases.
· Negotiate and settle cases short of litigation.
· Communicate efficiently and effectively with client members, opposing counsel, administrative agencies, and judicial personnel.
· Oversee workers compensation and duty disability cases that are assigned to outside counsel.
· Conduct legal workshops, seminars, and training sessions for our members, empowering them with knowledge about their rights, legal obligations, and best practices.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active Wisconsin Bar membership.
· Candidates with all levels of experience are invited to apply.
· Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
· Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Sound judgment and the ability to clearly communicate recommendations and rationale.
· Team player with a strong desire to promote a positive and collaborative work environment with Administrative, Legal and Field Staff colleagues.
· Ability to independently manage varied workload, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
· Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation
