This summer, Sturtevant officials began to quietly weigh a proposal to disband their police department and instead contract for law enforcement services through a neighboring agency. Thanks to the officers’ union and the WPPA, news of the potential move raised serious concerns regarding a lack of transparency and inspired pushback from members of the community. After months of outreach on the part of the Sturtevant Professional Police Association, the Village Board announced it would retain its police department.
